Philip attended the ISO 9001 Lead Auditor training in November at  Mercure Rougemont, Exeter (no longer used) and found the training to help with transitioning to the new 2015 standard and identify what the Auditor will be looking for.

What were your training objectives?

To gain certification for 2nd and 3rd party auditing to allow Flann to be able to better support our suppliers

What learning did you take from the course?

I have been 1st party auditing for 5 years to ISO 9001:2008. The changes in the new standard and some of the advice from the instructor, has given me the tools I need to write an Audit programme for our suppliers and the confidence to carry out the audits in a manner that will not cause concern for them.

Have you been able to apply anything since the course?

We are now risk assessing our suppliers and have identified our critical ones. This means that we can now plan our audits based on risk and hopefully will see the results of this support very quickly. I am also in the process of transitioning to the ISO 9001:2015 standard so understanding what the Auditor will be looking for will prove a great help in that process

What have been the benefits for you and the business?

Our suppliers are already showing trust in us as we have invested in this training to enable us to better support them and, our customers are pleased to see that we have taken what I have learned during the training and are starting to implement supplier audits. This gives them much greater confidence in our ability to deliver our products to the very high standards they have grown to expect from us.

How was the tutor?

The tutor was excellent.  David Ashton obviously has a wealth of experience in both Auditing and manufacturing which gave an added real life element to the course.

What was the venue like?

The venue was Ok.

Any advice to delegates?

Do your homework first. The better you understand the standard the easier it is to cope with the flood of information you are going to receive. The standard is the key to the entire course.

Would you recommend Bywater?

Yes without hesitation.
