Governance & Risk
In February 2025 ISO issued a second version of ISO 37001 relating to anti-corruption and bribery. Standards are regularly reviewed to ensure they are up to date and cover key issues.
Changes in the new 2025 version focus on:
- The rise in the importance of organisational culture. Mentioned just once in the first edition, culture has become a key topic in the new version, with top management now being required to demonstrate leadership in promoting ethical behaviour, transparency and accountability throughout the organisation
- The role of the anti-bribery function is changing to ensure independence by giving the function the right level of authority
- For all standards, clauses are being introduced relating to climate change, and organisation are being asked to consider environmental factors during risk assessment and compliance planning
- There are also some name changes, aimed at facilitating greater harmonisation across management system stands.
To complement the new version of the standard, a revised handbook is due for publication shortly.
Organisations that are already certified to ISO 37001:2016 will have 2 years to transition to the new version.
For more information you can watch the short ISO video interview with anti-bribery expert Jean-Pierre Méan, who has been closely involved in the development of the standard.
