Governance & Risk
In February 2025 ISO issued a second version of ISO 37001 relating to anti-corruption and bribery. Standards are regularly reviewed to ensure they are up to date and cover key issues.
Changes in the new 2025 version focus on:
The rise in the importance of organisational culture. Mentioned just once in the first edition, culture has become a key topic in the new version, with top management now being required to demonstrate leadership in promoting ethical behaviour, transparency and accountability throughout the organisation
The role of the anti-bribery function is changing to ensure independence by giving the function the right level of authority
For all standards, clauses are being introduced relating to climate change, and organisation are being asked to consider environmental factors during risk assessment and compliance planning
There are also some name changes, aimed at facilitating greater harmonisation across management system stands.
To complement the new version of the standard, a revised handbook is due for publication shortly.
Organisations that are already certified to ISO 37001:2016 will have 2 years to transition to the new version.
